Tighten system security

TERMINATOR and SENATOR work together to terminate inactive or unauthorized processes. Using a set of rules defined by the system manager, the TERMINATOR is able to enforce system security and reduce system overhead. These rules are defined using the SENATOR.

Monitor performance and resources

The SECRET_AGENT will keep an watchful eye on your system's resources and activities throughout the day. It reports various statistics such as CPU usage, disk activity, and memory usage at pre-selected intervals. All values are displayed graphically as well as numerically for easy comparison.

Performance tuning

The D.A., SURGEON and TAILOR are three utilities that work together to tune hash frame sizes of directories and element sizes or files.

Load file from PCOPY tapes

PCOPY_PAL selectively retrieves file from AOS/VS PCOPY tapes. This capability eliminates the need to find a free logical disk unit (LDU) on which to load the entire PCOPY. Most importantly, PCOPY_PAL makes PCOPY a reasonable alternative for improving MV backup-performance.

INFOS II Utilities

VS_TOOLBOX is a "must have" for INFOS users. Until the VS_TOOLBOX, INFOS was very unforgiving.

Suppose you created an INFOS file without space management (or maybe CEO did it for you). Even though you were careful to delete any information you no longer needed, you found yourself with a file that grew without bounds. You had a choice: buy more storage, or just live with it.

Or, suppose you created an INFOS file with key or record compression enabled. You experienced performance problems because you were running out of CPU time. Once again, you had a choice: buy a bigger machine, or just live with it.

You might even have created an INFOS file with a maximum of two sub-index levels, and then found that you needed three. You didn't even have a choice: you had to live with it.

Well you don't have to live with it anymore. With tools found in VS_TOOLBOX, you can recreate an INFOS file and change any of its attributes. You can turn space management on, turn key or record compression off, change the maximum number of index levels ... all the things you wanted to do.

INFOS File Rebuilding

Since the introduction of VS_TOOLBOX in 1985, thousands of INFOS users have run the ARCHITECT and REBUILDER. There strategically integrated tools work in concert to easily recognize INFOS files. The process can dramatically improve processing speed and reclaim significant amounts of unused disk space, even as much as an entire disk drive.

Other INFOS Utilities

INSPECTOR and INVESTIGATOR monitor the organization of an INFOS file to determine when rebuilding is necessary.
CROSS_EXAMINER logically compares two copies of an INFOS file.
DIRECTOR redirects indirect records in an INFOS data base.
ENFORCER will find or force "quiet time" for INFOS backups.
EXTENDER adds an additional volume to an INFOS index or data base.
MANAGER enables space management for an INFOS index or data base.
PARAMEDIC can recover data records from a corrupted INFOS data base.
SLEUTH performs INFOS verifications, useful when file errors are encountered.
